Rudder of the Body
Choose your words wisely. One word from you can change the direction of someone's life, including yours.
Who says that size doesn't matter?  The rudder is one of the smallest parts of the boat but, without it, the boat couldn't change course.  Likewise, the tongue is the rudder of the body.  It can certainly change the course of your life.  It is small, yet can be so hard to control.  Unfortunately, it is often used to completely assassinate the character of others and to tear people down.  Sometimes we don't even mean to do it.  Sometimes, we simply are "voicing our opinions".   We speak negativity right into, not only our own lives, but the lives of others.
Words have unspeakable power, my friends.  The truth is that sticks and stones hurt much less than words because physical bruises heal relatively quickly, while the sting of a loved one's harsh words have, mentally and spiritually, maimed many; some for life.  Some people believe that they won't ever achieve their dreams because someone that "loved" them told them that they would never amount to anything.  Children often bear the emotional scars of being called dumb, stupid, "just like your father (or mother)" in momentary fits of anger.  The result is pain that, most often, lasts much longer than a moment.   Studies have shown that, left alone with these words, with nothing to counteract them, children grow up believing exactly what their parents say about them.
What do you say to, or about, your loved ones?  How about the ones that sit across the room from you at church? Neither ignorance, nor anger is an excuse.  The words can never be taken back.  They cut, they bruise, they kill, they bring life, they build up, they heal and, most importantly, they last a lifetime.  Words are so powerful that when God spoke, the world was created and everything in it.  Words are so powerful that God esteems His Word higher than His name (Psalm 138:2).   Choose your words wisely.  One word from you can change the direction of someone's life, including yours.
Be Blessed!
