The 2004 Grammy Awards saw hip-hop group Outkast win three awards, including album of the year. Outkast is made up of rappers Big Boi (Antwan Patton) and André "Ice Cold" 3000 (André Benjamin).

Ron T. aka Getwizdom led a workshop on hip-hop at a Young Life Leadership Retreat. Guest speakers at Ron's workshop was Paul Coty, area director for Area Director of Young Life Baltimore; and Mak (aka Doulas), recent graduate from Lee University. I had the privilege of attending this seminar. It began by examining Acts 17:16-23, which illustrated that in order to effectively critique secular hip-hop and have an ear from kids, we have to understand hip-hop culture, everything from the dress to what the lyrics are saying in the popular secular songs. Because how can we tell them not to listen to the music if we don't even know what the lyrics are saying.
